Wildflower Seed Give-away at Ft. Greene Artisan Market (Sat 5/31)
May 22nd, 2008 by stash
Bees are responsible for pollinating 30% of our food crops. If they become extinct, much of the world’s food supply will disappear with them. Haagen-Dazs is supplying 2,000 packets of wildflower seeds for plants favored by foraging honey bees — the seed packets will be given out on Saturday, May 31 at the Artisan Market in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn.
Fort Greene resident and beekeeper, John Howe of Brooklyn Bee Apiary, is coordinating this effort and will be on hand to offer advice and answer any questions you may have about bees and their role as part of our ecosystem.

The Ft. Greene Artisan Market is located on the DeKalb Avenue sidewalk perimeter of Fort Greene Park starting at the intersection of DeKalb Avenue and Washington Park.

Check out the great Haagen-Dazs website HelpTheHoneyBees.com to see what all the buzz is about (sorry, couldn’t resist).
Have a garden or miss the give-away? Here are some plants that attract: butterflies, hummingbirds.
Get a mason bee nest, ’cause bees need homes too! The nests will house only the Mason Bees and will not house wasps or bumblebees. And mason bees won’t sting!

how do I get more wildflower seeded laden paper
June 10th, 2008 at 1:55 am
There isn’t any wildflower seeded laden paper. The wildflower seeds, provided by Haagen Dasz come in packets of 50 seeds each. Some are perennials. Saturday,June 21 There will be another seed give-away at the Artisan Market, located on the DeKalb Avenue sidewalk perimeter of Fort Greene Park- near the intersection of DeKalb & Washington Park (Cumberland Street). It’s late in the season for planting but we got the seeds late and have been dispersing them as quickly as possible.
