Vote For Change, Vote Obama For President: Election Day 2008 Resources

November 4th, 2008 by Ethan

Today is the day. Please make voting your #1 priority.

It’s not too late to make some last-minute phone calls! Make sure your family and friends all make it out! Some “Get Out The Vote” resources here and here.

Here are your important Election Day links and resources:

  • Find your Polling Location at www.govote.org.
  • Find out the times your polling location will be open.
  • Put this number into your phone before you go to vote: 866-OUR-VOTE! (Call 888-VE-Y-VOTA for Spanish-language help). Call that number to report any problems.
  • Any problems? Never walk away from the polls if you are having problems. Simply report the problem immediately to poll watchers on-site and then call 866-OUR-VOTE.
  • If you are turned away, ask to vote by provisional ballot. You should be able to vote by provisional ballot right then. The ballots will be counted separately but should be added to the total within 7 days of Election Day.
  • Any more questions? Check out the helpful Voter Resources page at NYT.
  • If you see anything fishy, don’t hesitate to contact the media. CNN has a Voter Hotline: 877-GOCNN-08. Send photos and videos to iReport.com.
  • Do you Twitter? Report problems, lines, delays, and any other such update to TwitterVoteReport.com. Check the site before you go to the polls to see if there are any problems in your area. Reader Simon O. lets us know about a really neat site showing fresh tweets of voters, displaying voters’ keywords in proportion of how many times that term was used by Obama voters versus McCain voters… in realtime… Really cool.
  • Watch the results come in at an Obama party (search by zip code), Talking Points Memo, or FiveThirtyEight.com! Sign up for text message alerts at FiveThirtyEight.com by scrolling down and looking on the left-hand side of the web page, look for a light-blue box, and sign up!

Does every NYC vote count even though the state is likely to go for Obama? Absolutely. This was posted yesterday at The Politico:

A reader in New York City emails:

I was just contacted by my late grandfather’s union, to arrange transportation to the poll tomorrow for my elderly grandmother. After I made arrangements over the phone, I called my grandmother to be sure she wanted to vote, as she has not been feeling well lately. I explained to her that New York was sure to be won by her candidate (and mine), Barack Obama.

Grams showed a flash of anger. First, she said, she’d have to be dying not to vote tomorrow. Second, she said, and I quote: “If this thing gets to 269-269, we have to whoop McCain good in the popular vote to show the House of Representatives we mean business.”

Not bad for a frail 80-year old black woman with who didn’t finish middle school.

Best of luck to all candidates, but especially Barack Obama and progressive Democrats!

Now let’s change the country and change the world!

Brooklyn For Barack: Can’t Make It To Philly? Hit The Phones Reminding Swing State Voters To Get Out And Vote! Volunteer Opportunities From Today Until The Polls Close on Tues Nov 4th!

October 31st, 2008 by Ethan

Our friends from Brooklyn For Barack are back with another way that YOU can help get out the vote: phone bank from Brooklyn!

Remember. We need green jobs, clean energy, health care… Help Barack GOTV!

The note from BFB:

This year, the Obama campaign is trying something that has never been done before. The campaign will have all of its volunteers in battleground states going door to door to talk to voters in person. They will not make any reminder phone calls. Instead, the campaign has outsourced the calling program to blue states like New York. Every single reminder phone call to an Obama supporter in a battleground state like Pennsylvania or Ohio will come from a blue state like New York.

Let me repeat that: Every single reminder phone call to an Obama supporter in a battleground state will come from a state like New York.

That means that we’re counting on you, Brooklynites, in a way that no Presidential campaign up to this point has. Those reminder phone calls are an essential part of the get out the vote operation in battleground states. We MUST make these phone calls, and every phone call that goes unmade hurts our chance to win this election.

Over the course of the next four days we need to make literally millions of phone calls from New York. Brooklyn alone is responsible for making close to a million calls. We estimate that we’ll need about 10,000 volunteers from Brooklyn to meet our call goal. To reach that goal, I need every single person on this email list to make a couple of hours sometime between now and 8 PM on Tuesday evening, get three or four friends together, and come down to one of the following locations with your cell phones and chargers to make some reminder calls. The calls are very simple. You won’t be calling any undecided voters. You’ll just be calling supporters and reminding them to vote in the election on Tuesday.

We also need people who can help flyer. So if you can’t make calls but you still want to help, please email at amandat@brooklynforbarack.org and we’ll put you on a street team.

Why We Need To Register Voters For Obama Now

October 1st, 2008 by Ethan

Right now, Barack Obama is polling the best he has during this entire Presidential election. That includes a new batch of state polls that are very good for Obama. Electoral college projections show a landslide. Now is the time to lay the groundwork for a big victory in November.

Registration deadlines are rapidly approaching — most are the first week of October. The N.Y. State voter registration deadline is Friday, October 10th.

Find an event near you — or volunteer to make calls via your cell phone.

Register to vote. Request to vote absentee. Find your polling location. Find your early vote location. ALL HERE.

Please. Do something. Any chance you can.
