Green Grows In Brooklyn: Park Slope Business Community Pledges To Raise Money For Local Recycling

To support local recycling efforts, the Park Slope 5th Avenue BID has partnered with the Park Slope Chamber of Commerce to launch a new recycling campaign.  The initiative, GREEN GROWS IN BROOKLYN, will take place from April 20th-April 22nd — right in time for Earth Day. In the next few weeks, keep an eye out for participating businesses on both Avenues who have signed on to collect donations in order to support local recycling efforts in the community.

“We are really excited about this campaign,” said Irene LoRe owner of Aunt Suzie’s and Executive Director of the Park Slope 5th Avenue BID, “GREEN GROWS IN BROOKLYN represents an overarching effort to unite businesses, residents and the nonprofit community to tackle the challenges of recycling in Park Slope.”

Samantha Delman-Caserta, co-owner of 3r Living, concurred with LoRe. “Park Slope is considered one of the recycling capitals of NYC. Residents here understand how important this issue is locally and globally and have always been supportive,” she said. “This event underscores the power of neighborhood-wide initiatives to improve community life and we hope it becomes a tradition.”

Please join us for a composting fundraiser event. Learn how to lower your urban-eco footprint, meet other folks in the community interested in composting, join our raffle to win prizes, bid on items for the silent auction, and help us raise funds for the expansion of the North Brooklyn Compost Project while eating snacks and toasting to our worms with a glass of sangria. $10 suggested donation at the door. Our guest speakers include No Impact Man [Ed. Note: Now aka Near-miss Man]; Colin Beavan, and the North Brooklyn Compost Masters; Kate Zidar, Griffin Thomas, & Natasha Heflin. Raffle prizes and silent auction items are donated by: Urban Rustic, Brooklyn Kitchen, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Council on the Environment of NYC, Lodge Restaurant, Habana Outpost, Sprout Home, Ronnybrook, 3r Living, Penny Licks, and Word Books Stationary Kid’s Stuff.
