Public Assembly Hosts Birthright Earth Fundraiser After McCarren Park Pool Party (Sun July 13, 9pm)
July 11th, 2008 by Ethan
Now that Galapagos has moved on to DUMBO, the new owners of the legendary Williamsburg art space have aptly re-Christened the space Public Assembly.
The new krewe is so steeped in Williamsburg goodness that they are running a series of shows as the official after-parties of the hot hot free summer Sunday Pool Parties at McCarren Park.
This coming Sunday, July 13th at Public Assembly is a fundraiser for Birthright Earth, a NYC-based organization that funds “eye-opening trips for young people to the rain forests of South America.”

70 N. 6th Street, Brooklyn
Featuring: DJ EMAGINE
More about Birthright Earth:
The Birthright Earth concept grew out of the extreme success of the Taglit-Birthright Israel program. [...] Similarly profound, Birthright Earth seeks to instill a greater understanding of the rare wonders and detrimental circumstances of today’s fragile ecosystems through direct exposure. On our trips, young people experience the rainforest itself, outside Zoos and theme parks. Participants interact with indigenous communities, explore exotic beauty, come face-to-face with local wildlife, and learn from resident researchers about current conservation issues.
Over the course of 10-days, every Birthright Earth traveler is shown how intricately connected we are with the world’s ecosystems, how truly breathtaking these parts of the world are, and how badly they need our help.
So go peep out The Breeders for free at McCarren Park at 2pm, then walk, jog, bike, or board over to Public Assembly and throw down your $5 for a good green cause. Sounds like a perfect Brooklyn summer Sunday to me.
And by the way, word on the street is that we will be seeing a lot more green events at Public Assembly including ones like this, after-parties after the McCarren Park shows. So stay tuned both here and at Public Assembly’s website….……
