Off The Grid: John Howe Brooklyn Beekeeper
May 28th, 2008 by EthanIt is with my great pleasure to announce that the GBK editorial board — aka me — has selected the very first recipient of the GBK ‘Off The Grid‘ award!
And that recipient is John Howe for his work with the pollinators of the world: bees!
For more on John and his educational work on bees, see this recent post or go to his website thebrooklynbee.com.
According to John, when he started the Brooklyn Beekeeping meet-up group there were only 2 beekeepers in Brooklyn. Since starting the group they have added 3 more apiaries in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
I wonder how many flowers those bees have pollinated, in how many gardens, and on how many stoops? Lots.
Congratulations John!
Stay tuned for more super-greenies at GBK’s Off The Grid page.
And feel free to nominate someone including yourself — hey why not? — by contacting GBK.

Hello!
I am looking for volunteer work with a Brooklyn Beekeeper. I’m thinking about beekeeping myself but want to volunteer first. If you know of anyone who might need some help–please give me a holler!
Best–
