Luz Serve Cena Sin Luces Para El Dia De La Tierra — Luz Serves Dinner Without Lights For Earth Day
April 22nd, 2008 by Ethan
What a better way to cap off your Earth Day 2008 than to celebrate with a candlelight dinner?! Luz Restaurant (177 Vanderbilt Avenue) is hosting a special two-night celebration of all things green in honor of Earth Day, sin luz — without lights!
UPDATE: Dinner at Luz last night was incredible! Go tonight (4/23) for a candle-lit dinner! The place was immaculate, the service exceptional (some of “are you done yet? I can’t see in the dark!”), the restaurant packed and lively, the food exquisite, the cause even better. And the live Afro-Cuban music set the tone for the night. Stay tuned for a full review, but get there tonight and see… I posted a list of what I had via my cell phone to the new funky GBK TXT (see the box on the sidebar to the left).
Many things can be disrupted if there is no power. Communications, water, light, building systems, transportation, etc. We have decided to focus on the most basic human act: consuming food. On April 22 and 23 we will be selecting, measuring and combining organic and sustainable products to produce a meal without electric power. We will be using all natural, organic and grass fed products from local farms and markets. We will also be serving organic beer and wine. There will be no electricity, no telephones, no gas, no credit card machines, no computers, and no heat lamps.
We hope that through our two days of cooking we can promote awareness of environmental issues. We hope to ingest consciousness of the fact that what we do, buy, use or dispose has a direct impact on planet Earth.
We will provide live music [ed. note: unplugged we assume!], seating and serve food to be consumed on the premises, we ask you to come, engage and enjoy this act which supports life. Come to Luz, without Luz, and celebrate Earth day 2008.
$55.00 per person five courses
