Farmer’s Market Grows in DUMBO: Opens Sunday, June 15th
June 13th, 2008 by Ethan
We all know and love NYC’s great Greenmarkets.
But did you know that in addition to those great places to get sustainable food and other local products, there are also a whole whack of independent farmer’s markets too?!
Check out the full list of farmer’s markets in King’s County care of the Farmer’s Market Federation of NY.
Now the Federation has a new one to add to the list.
This Sunday — June 15th — is the opening day of the DUMBO Farmer’s Market.
DUMBO Farmer’s Market

11AM - 5PM
Location
Main & Plymouth Streets
(at the entrance to Brooklyn Bridge Park)
The market will be open:
Every Sunday

The market is produced by a collaboration of Dumbo Improvement District and Ossining-based (that’s Westchester County, folks) Community Markets; with the support of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the City of New York and the New York City Department of Transportation.
Like GBK, Community Markets appreciates and advocates for sustainable food.
Community Markets is an organization that believes strongly in three ideas: supporting local agriculture, strengthening local communities, and making fresh produce available to neighborhoods with limited access.
They also do the market in Park Slope — among other locations in Westchester County, Rockland County, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Queens. Go here for the full list and links to info about each market.
What can you find at the market?
- Baked Goods
- Cut Flowers
- Dairy Products
- Fish
- Fruit
- Herbs
- Meat
- Plants
- Prepared Foods
- Specialty Foods
- Vegetables
Read more about the market and the companies selling their produce and wares.
While most of the companies are NY/NJ-based local companies, the only Brooklyn-based one for now is this neat little company: Hot Bread Kitchen (selling baked goods and specialty foods). So be sure to check them out.
Check out some more local vendors by reading up on the bios of local farmers, bakers, and artisans.
Most of all, enjoy (and don’t forget to bring your re-usable canvas, cotton, or hemp bag)!
