Join I Heart PV campaign advocate and coop member Margo Bettencourt, and campaign coordinator Chris Neidl to hear the arguments in support of this claim and discuss current attempts to establish New York as a leader in solar adoption.

Solar Advocates Pump Out 70 Letters At Party For A Solar New York

March 11th, 2009 by Ethan

Our good friends at Solar One are out to change the way we use solar energy in NYC. They held their second Party for a Solar New York last month at Southpaw in Brooklyn, where they churned out some serious solar activism, a racing contest between funky homemade solar powered toy race cars, a Q&A with a solar installer, and some good times.

Drawing close to 150 guests, the party was a huge success. Nearly half of those attending sat down and wrote letters to their state legislators in support of I Heart PV’s current legislative goal: the creation of an Empire State Solar Initiative to dramatically boost solar adoption in New York over the next ten years.

Check out more photos and the full post over at solar1.org.

PopSci.com covered the event as well, reporting:

Organizer Chris Neidl said that Solar One’s broader goal is to make solar energy provide for a significant portion of New York’s energy use. He would like to see 2,000 megawatts produced by solar by 2020, making New York the east coast capital of solar energy.

Check out their full article and photo gallery.

I Heart PV Solar Soiree: Party for a Solar-Powered New York (Sun Dec 7, 7pm)

December 1st, 2008 by Ethan

Solar One is kicking off a new, monthly hang for solar advocates in NYC, the Solar Soiree! Help kick it off Sunday 12/7 at Park Slope’s Southpaw.

Sunday, December 7, 2008
7:00pm - 10:00pm

Southpaw
125 Fifth Avenue
Park Slope, NY
Go here for more info
Download and share the invite! (pdf)

I Heart PV is a grassroots campaign to make New York a leading solar power adopter through legislative action.

The Solar Soiree is a new monthly event where New Yorkers can come and have fun with friends and strangers, find out about the state of solar power in New York, and get involved in the I Heart PV campaign. Activities include:

  • I Heart PV info booths, and general solar-related chattiness. Find out why solar photovoltaics (PV) is so well suited for New York, and what the campaign is doing right now to put our city and state at the center of solar implementation and industry.
  • The I Heart PV letter writing bar. Take your first refreshing step into local solar advocacy by writing a letter to your state senator and/or assembly member in support of pro-solar legislation on the spot with the help of our members. It’s super easy and letter writers will be lavished with great drink specials for their heroic efforts!
  • Solar-Powered Toy Car Building. Fun for the inner child (involves hot glue guns and knives!!). Design, build and take home your own tiny little bundle of PV fun. Great gift idea for broke gift-givers who have loved ones and friends with relatively low expectations.
  • Enjoy hours and hours of ’sun’-titled tracks spun by Southpaw’s own DJ Mikey Palms.

. . . and MUCH MORE!

FREE ENTRANCE, must be 21 to drink!

I Heart PV is a project of Solar One, New York’s Green Energy, Arts and Education Center.
